AI is Wrong about Lottery Blind Trusts

I have seen some articles and an AI transcript saying you can claim lottery winnings in Ohio through a blind trust. This is not correct. While the use of several trusts is involved in making the anonymous claim, none is a blind trust. This tells me whoever provides this information has never made an anonymous claim for lottery winnings.

A blind trust has a different use. A blind trust uses an independent trustee, other than the person who establishes the trust aka the settlor (the one with the money). Once this independent trustee is in place, the independent trustee then makes all the management and investment decisions. The settlor/owner is not informed of the investments and has no access to the kind of investments which are made.  The settlor is still the beneficiary of the trust, that is, they get all the income, but they are “blind” to where that money is invested. Hence, the name “blind” trust. In the past, the President of the United States would deposit all their personal funds into a blind trust to prevent taking any action which might favor the president’s financial interests. This is not what experienced attorneys use for claiming lottery winnings anonymously for their clients.

If you win the lottery and want to remain anonymous, I can make that happen.
